Is LAUSD keeping San Pedro in the Dark?
LAUSD says:
“The bond money must be spent for new construction…”
What they don’t tell us is…
The bond money can be used to replace the 47 “temporary” single-story bungalows at San Pedro High with modern, multi-story permanent classrooms.
LAUSD says:
“The new high school will only serve students of San Pedro…”
What they don’t tell us is…
There is nothing to stop LAUSD from bussing students from all over Los Angeles in the future (Census data indicates the population of school-age children in San Pedro will not fill the available seats being created.)
LAUSD says:
“We need a new high school to relieve overcrowding at San Pedro High…”
But…
LAUSD also says that a new high school will not reduce the number of students in classrooms.
LAUSD says:
“San Pedro residents will benefit from the new high school…”
What they don’t tell us is…
The latest plan for a Marine Science Magnet would benefit only 10% of the San Pedro High Students.
LAUSD says:
They are “only going to build one two-story structure…”
What they don’t tell us is…
They are requesting permission to build 52 foot tall building on elevated land (which would make their structures a visual blight for miles).
LAUSD says:
That the school will be built on the Upper Reservation of Fort MacArthur / Angel’s Gate…
What they don’t tell us is…
They have approved the Pt. Fermin Outdoor Education Center – where 5th graders throughout the LA area will live for 4 to 4 days – right next to the proposed high school.
LAUSD says:
“We own the land…”
What they don’t tell us is…
LAUSD owns land closer to the major student population.
